7th World Scientific Congress

5–7 September 2016

The 7th International Scientific Congress “Education, Science, Culture and Peace” was held on 5–7 September 2016 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. It was organized by the International Higher Academic Council and the association Objectif Sciences International together with the International University of Fundamental Studies; its president was Professor Agop Kerkiacharian, President of the International Academy of Sciences Ararat (France).

Dr Startsev presented a plenary paper and received the congress participant's certificate.

The paper “Technosphere-Biosphere Interactions”

The paper “Sustainable Industrial Development = New Strategy of UNIDO. Technosphere-Biosphere Interactions: Ideas to Improve a Broken Balance” deals with the widening gap between the technosphere and the biosphere.

  • Global challenges to civilization, after V. G. Gorshkov and A. M. Makarieva: humanity has exceeded the carrying capacity of the biosphere, and scientific and technological progress runs on with unpredictable consequences.
  • The lessons of Biosphere 2 (Arizona, 1986–1997): in a closed 1.3-hectare ecosystem costing USD 200 million, 19 of the 25 species of small vertebrates died out, and after 17 months the oxygen level fell to that of an altitude of about 5,300 m. Conclusion: some natural components of the environment cannot be created artificially at any cost.
  • The physical instability of the Earth's climate: without the regulating role of living nature, the climate would quickly move to a state unfit for life.
  • The “forest pump” of the Amazon and Congo basins and the Eurasian boreal belt as the main supplier of fresh water.
